Amazon’s Project Kuiper has made inroads into the Central Asian market of Uzbekistan, a country with a population of around 36 million people. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies has signed an MoU with Kuiper as both parties look to enhance Uzbekistan’s telecoms infrastructure and expand access to high-speed internet across Uzbekistan through the Project Kuiper satellite network. The MoU was announced, Oct. 10.

The MoU followed a meeting between representatives of Kuiper and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov. This week, Shermatov held a meeting with a delegation of major American companies including Amazon Project Kuiper, Apple, Mastercard, Meta, and others, to discuss cooperation on digital technologies.

It has been a busy week for Amazon’s Kuiper. At the start of the week, it was announced that Project Kuiper had received regulatory approval from Ireland’s Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) to operate a satellite Earth station gateway at the National Space Centre (NSC) in Cork. This approval represents an important milestone in Project Kuiper’s mission to deliver broadband across Europe.

“Project Kuiper will play an important role in connecting those beyond the reach of existing networks. We’re proud to do our part to help connect customers and communities across the country and thankful for the support of ComReg, the Irish government, and our partners at the National Space Centre in making this possible,” Alison Dunn, Ireland country manager for Amazon, said in a statement.
